Policies and Procedures

Attendance

Your success in English is dependent upon regular attendance. For that reason, you are expected to be in class every day.

Missed Assignments

If you are absent, many assignments and handouts will be accessible from this website. Assignments missed due to an absence will be due immediately. If your work is not received in a timely manner, you will begin losing points at a rate of ten (10) per day.

Office Hours

I hold regular office hours on Thursdays from 3:00-3:45. This time is designated for you. I will be available to answer questions about topics covered in class, and you will have the opportunity to complete missed assignments.

Cheating

Cheating will not be tolerated. If you are caught cheating, you will be given a zero on the assignment, and your parents will be notified. Do not expect to receive extra credit assignments if you have been caught cheating.

Grading

System: Day Book Entries: 30%; Projects & Essays: 30%; Exams: 20%; Quizzes: 10%; Participation: 10%

Scale: A: 93-100; B: 85-92; C: 77-84; D: 70-76

Retesting

If you make a failing score on an exam, you may retake the exam; however, the highest score possible on a reexamination will be a 77. If you make a passing score on the first exam, you will not be eligible for a retake.

Leaving the Classroom

If you leave or enter the classroom for any reason, you must complete the destination log on the clipboard beside the telephone.

You should go to the bathroom between classes or during lunch; however, there are emergencies. For emergencies, you will be allowed three (3) passes for the semester.

Unless an administrator or another teacher requests you, you will have to use one of your three passes to leave the classroom. No exceptions!

Mobile Phones

Mobile phones, devices with texting and Internet access, and similar items are not allowed in class; these devices will be confiscated in accordance with school policy.

Violating the mobile phone policy will result in the following consequences (per school policy):

• 1st Offense: Mobile phone will be confiscated and phone returned to student at the end of the day; parent contact will be made.
• 2nd Offense: Mobile phone will be confiscated and returned to a parent/guardian after three (3) calendar days.
• 3rd Offense: Mobile phone will be confiscated and returned to parent/guardian within 4-7 calendar days and one (1) day ISS.
• More than three (3) offenses will be considered insubordination and will be dealt with at the administration's discretion.

Unexcused Tardies

The pass room coordinator will deal with unexcused tardiness in the following manner (per school policy):

• 1st Offense: Verbal Warning
• 2nd Offense: Written Warning
• 3rd Offense: One (1) period of lunch detention
• 4th Offense: Two (2) periods of lunch detention
• 5th Offense: Two (2) periods of after-school detention; parents will be contacted
• 6th Offense: Two (2) periods of after-school detention; Administrative Committee referral including parent contact
• 7th Offense: Two (2) periods of after-school detention; Administrative Committee referral. Administrative Committee may choose whatever action they deem appropriate to alleviate the tardy problem (e.g., loss of driving privileges, modified schedules, revoked NHS membership, etc.)
• 8th Offense: One (1) day of ISS
• 9th Offense: One (1) day of OSS
• 10th Offense: Three (3) days of OSS
